We are in the middle of a heatwave in Cape Town and the worst thing about the heat is the fact that I can’t sleep as the temperature continues to hover around 25 degrees celcius even in the middle of the night with the windows open and the fan at full blast (which, if you follow me on twitter, will know scares the cat which means she sleeps next to my head to get as far away from it as possible).
The last thing you feel like doing when its so hot is to turn on the oven to bake something but, I hinted at a blog post a day for the whole week that I am on vacation from work so here we are…a boozy milkshake that will definitely “bring the boys to the yard”…and since I used homemade rum n raisin ice cream you might attract boys like Captain Jack Sparrow
115g bar one chocolate bars (each bar is 55g each so you will need 2)
100ml milk
Melt the cut up bar one chocolate bars with milk for about 2 minutes in the microwave stopping to stir every 30 seconds until mostly melted. Since you will be blitzing it in the blender it won’t be the end of the world if it isn’t completely melted. Set aside to cool in the fridge.
When you are ready to serve, combine in the blender:
500ml rum n raisin ice cream (homemade or shop bought)
1 large banana
*30ml rum (if you using shop bought ice cream and you won’t be sharing with any under 18′s)
Blitz well for about a minute before adding your bar one sauce. If you couldn’t wait for the sauce to cool, add 2 ice blocks and blend well until smooth and frothy. Serve in chilled glasses and enjoy while watching the sunset.
Serves 2-3 (depending on the size of the glass)

Love the milkshake idea….I am overheating like a antique car at the moment! Enjoy your holiday!
Love your site, everytime I visit there is something new….dynamic sites do well from a SEO point of view!!
Thank you Nina. I really appreciate the positive feedback. I am really enjoying my time off so that I can not only spend time with the family and rest but also challenge myself to a blog post per day. There is no way I can keep that up when I go back to work but it is nice to see that I can do it xx
Ohhh My Hat… eat the Bar-one sce, drink the rum, and save the ice-cream for the headache the next morning. LOL. This could def be a dessert for an adult dinner party

Wonderful!! The heat is to much and the wind is even worse but this milkshake sounds wonderful to combat the heat and the blues that the wind brings over me!
Lol. Yip, just enough booze to help you forget about the wind and all the dust it is blowing into my house

looks absolutely orgasmic! On the wagon or not-i am going to give it a blitz!
That’s great Lee. Let me know what you think. They work great in smaller portions like in shot glasses too and will make a great end to a dinner party
