Kicking the habit

*whispers* I’ve given up refined* sugar you guys…

The word on the street is that sugar is as addictive as heroine and I’m not cool with being addicted to anything so, I am making a concerted effort to kick the habit. Of course, barely 24 hours after I’d started, I arrive at Bible study to find we were celebrating a birthday with ooey-gooey chocolate mousse cake…which I managed to resist! YAY!! It nearly killed me. *sob*

I’ve also made a decision to stop eating bread, pasta and potatoes…Well…maybe not potatoes. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. And before you ask, no…I’m not doing the hashtag banting thing. I haven’t read the book so I won’t be placing myself in that box to be judged by one and all. Simple carbs like bread and pasta turn into sugar so I can’t give up sugar without giving up freshly baked bread and macaroni cheese. *gulp*

This is obviously going to be a problem for a baker like me. How will I survive!!? While I’m okay with using honey, I refuse to use sweeteners. It’s just wrong for something ingestible to be chemically engineered in a science lab. *Ahem* Yes margarine…I’m talking about you too *side-eyes*.

I’m questioning my sanity about attending The Cake and Bake Show this weekend. I find it hard to turn down the opportunity of free tickets (thx Sasko) and I’m looking forward to spending time with a friend but I’m going to be placing myself in a VERY tempting situation. Would a drug addict, who had barely “been clean” for a week, go walking around in his dealer’s ‘hood?

So, wish me luck – I will need truckloads of it. I’ll let you know how it goes. Follow me on Twitter and Instagram for pics and tweets after 12pm on Sunday.

*Not sure if refined is the right term but I know that sugar appears most foods so, avoiding it where it occurs naturally is impossible.

Wishing you loads of luck with kicking the habit. I told myself the same thing two weeks ago and another *I’ll start next week* later . . .
